Chris has over eight years of experience as arts manager. He spent over six years as manager of the oldest lyrical-dramatic institution in Romania – a permanent repertory company founded in 1919. As Director-General he guided the artistic vision of the Romanian National Opera of Cluj-Napoca, overseeing the programming and casting of over eighty self-produced opera and ballet productions each season. As Director-General, Chris was also responsible for securing financial support for the organization and overseeing its marketing and fund raising campaigns. He has been with the company for the past 15 years and before his appointment as Director-General, he served as Stage Director and Deputy Director. In addition he signed several opera productions (Le Nozze di Figaro, Turandot, Oedipe, The Flying Dutchman, Oreste/Oedipe, La Forza del Destino) and he is a member of the Romanian Association of Theater Artists (UNITER). Chris is the founder and the Director of the National Operas Festival, a first of its kind festival in Romania.
Chris received a Bachelor’s degree in Musical Theater and Opera Stage Direction from the University of Bucharest, a Master’s in Music from the Music Academy of Cluj, Romania, and a Master’s in Opera Stage Direction from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He is a former fellow of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and studied cultural management at the DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
